When I came upon this large pond in Balboa Park in San Diego and glimpsed this arrangement of the water lily and lily pads, I knew I just had to paint it and I thought of Claude Monet and how he would be have been moved by it, as well. The lily pads with all their minor imperfections are as lovely to me as the lone perfect water lily.
As a child I was always surrounded by intriguing colorful layouts, eye catching compositions, and the smell of paint. My father, a teacher of sign painting for over 25 years, inspired my creativity and imagination at a very young age. My pastimes then involved many forms of art including drawing, painting, scratchboard, wood burning, macramé, needlework, stained glass, and photography. I developed a natural eye for composition, which I apply to my photography and to my current endeavor of painting with watercolor and oil.
