What motivates me as an artist the most is the contrast of sun and shadow. I was struck by the little bit of very light yellow green leaves between the V of the trunks and the lovely shadow pattern of the tree. This scene was painted on a working farm in Acton, which was formerly known as Blum Ranch and is now called Bloom Ranch. During different seasons of the year, you can find peach trees, lilacs, in bloom, chickens roaming freely, and all sorts of farm equipment. I have painted a few different scenes there and will be returning for more.

As a child I was always surrounded by intriguing colorful layouts, eye catching compositions, and the smell of paint. My father, a teacher of sign painting for over 25 years, inspired my creativity and imagination at a very young age. My pastimes then involved many forms of art including drawing, painting, scratchboard, wood burning, macramé, needlework, stained glass, and photography. I developed a natural eye for composition, which I apply to my photography and to my current endeavor of painting with watercolor and oil. I truly believe that a great photograph begins with the ability to "see" beyond the norm into the infinite beauty and mystery of the subject matter.
